MARIA BERENATO KUGEL WALK TO BENEFIT THE ALCOVE CENTER FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

Everyone is invited to participate in remembering Maria and "Continue the Light" by making a donation to the Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families.

In 2002, Boardwalk Runners Club, organizers of the Atlantic City Marathon, dedicated the walk in memory of Maria. In tribute to Maria, the number of people who walked in the walk in her memory was the largest in marathon walk history. We want to continue the light, life and spirit of Maria with our October event, the MARIA BERENATO KUGEL WALK to benefit the ALCOVE CENTER for Grieving Children and Families. The Alcove Center. under the guidance of Pat Smith and Mindy Shemtov gives people an opportunity to break the silence and never forget those wonderful people who were once a part of our lives and are still a part of our lives.

Maria was known for her participation in the Atlantic City Marathon and Boardwalk Runners Club as membership chair for many years. Maria was an outstanding, dedicated volunteer, always ready for the next event, always ready to meet and greet people. She was our official hospitality person for all club events, especially the Atlantic City Marathon. Her sudden death stunned all who knew and loved her, family, friends and people who came to Atlantic City every October for our festival of running. The proceeds of the walk will benefit grieving children and families, providing an opportunity to tell what those who are gone will mean to the living for the rest of their lives.

All participants in the walk are encouraged to participate in the "Memory Wall" to remember Maria or another loved one by writing a special message of hope and bringing photographs, poems, articles or other mementos to add to the wall on October 14th. Pledges to the Alcove Center are encouraged and funds donated by generous participants and their sponsors help to support the bereavement programs year round, thus helping countless numbers of families in the Atlantic City and South Jersey region. Team walking: Why not join forces, at work or at home, and form your own team for this year's Atlantic City Marathon Maria Berenato Kugel Walk. A great way to remember, to show your support, and to share in the fun of the day.
